Google Business Profile for Contractors: Setup Guide

Getting every field right the first time.

Start with the right business type: most remodelers should register as a service-area business rather than a storefront, which hides your home address but still shows the areas you serve - important both for privacy and for accurate matching against local searches.

Pick the primary category carefully ("Kitchen remodeler" or "Bathroom remodeler" rather than a generic "Contractor") and add secondary categories that reflect the real range of work you do. Category accuracy directly affects which searches you show up for.

Fill in every optional field Google offers - service list, business description, attributes - and upload real photos of finished work regularly, not just once at setup. An active, complete profile consistently outranks a sparse one with better reviews.

Finally, set a habit: request a review the day a job finishes, respond to every review (good or bad) within a few days, and post an update or photo at least monthly. Profiles that show ongoing activity get more trust from both Google and homeowners.
